Developed by Bell Helicopter as an evolution of the “Cobra” attack helicopter, the AH-1W “Super Cobra” entered service during the 1980s and was used in several operational theaters, including military operations in the Gulf and in Iraq. Equipped with two powerful General Electric turboshaft engines, which allow it to exceed 280 km/h, it is characterized by a high degree of operational flexibility. The crew consists of two people, the pilot and the weapons operator, seated in tandem to optimize visibility during combat. It can be equipped with TOW anti-tank missiles, AGM-114 Hellfire guided missiles, and unguided rockets. The AH-1W was mainly used by the United States Marine Corps to support ground troops during amphibious assault operations.
