Description

The F7F Tigercat was developed by Grumman to be shipped on Midway aircraft carriers. However, trials showed that the dimensions of this twin-engined aircraft created serious operative problems, and soon a decision was taken to destine the Tigercats, originally delivered to the Marines, to land bases. The first units were in line during the last months of WWII, but were never aligned in an operative area. The F7F first saw service in the Korean War, where the two-seat version F7F-3N, equipped with a radar, obtained good results in night fights. A total of 364 units of F7F were built.
